Vintage Painted Folk Art Sculpture

Someone found a face in a lump of wood. Then painted her pink and gave her glasses.

Carved from a single, wonderfully irregular piece of dense hardwood, the natural knots, splits and broken edges have largely been left to do their own thing, becoming as much a part of the sculpture as the face itself.

The pink has been disappearing for some time, revealing more and more of the timber beneath. We’d rather it continued.

A slightly peculiar piece of later 20th century folk sculpture. Quite difficult not to like.
