Vintage Puglian 'Riccio' Vessel
We’re calling it a hedgehog — riccio — even if it’s not trying too hard to be one.
Hand-built terracotta from southern Italy, with that deep blue glaze sitting thick across the surface and breaking in places to the clay underneath. The spikes are all individually formed, pushed out rather than added, and the face is just hinted at — enough to land, without turning it into something too literal. There’s a handle, there’s a spout, but neither feel especially committed to the job.
It looks like it should do something, which is part of the appeal. In reality, it sits somewhere between object and idea — slightly odd, nicely made, and the kind of thing you pick up without quite knowing why.
