Vintage Terracotta Sculpture of a Seated Man

Spotted and at first glance it fools you into thinking bronze — but this figure is all terracotta, hand-worked and later given that bronzed patina now rubbed back in places to reveal the warm clay beneath.
 
There’s something very human about the pose: not heroic, not stylised, just a man resting, caught mid-thought. Signed simply MB, it has the feel of a mid-century studio study, a sculptor’s moment of observation preserved in clay.
 
The wear only adds to it, the golds and greens mingling with earthy reds to give a surface alive with history.
