West African Copper Cuff Bracelet

Likely West African, this heavy cast copper cuff would originally have been worn as personal adornment, but pieces like this also sat somewhere between jewellery, status object, and stored wealth depending on region and period.
 
The form is simple and solid — thick cast copper with hand-cut scoring running around the outer edge and rounded terminals worn smooth from handling over time. No decoration for decoration’s sake, just weight, repetition, and material doing the work.
 
One of those pieces that reads equally well as sculpture once it’s off the body.
